FAQs

What is the Clover Voice Assistant?

When you initially plug in your Clover device, it will immediately provide voice-guided prompts to assist you with the installation process. This installation guidance involves essentially a two-step process:

  • Determining Location: The device first needs to establish its location by using satellite GPS. This step ensures it knows where it is and can accurately receive alerts based on its geographic position.
  • Device Placement: Once the location is determined, you will be prompted to place your device in your desired area. It's crucial that the device receives a signal from your local Clover television tower to function effectively.

Throughout this process, your device will talk you through each step and provide confirmation of a successful installation. The entire setup typically takes only a few minutes to complete, ensuring that your Clover device is ready to provide earthquake alerts and keep you informed.

Where should I place my device?

The more places in your home, of office, that are alerted then the more time everyone will have to take protective action in the event of a quake. Locate them in your home or business, such as your bedroom, children's rooms, main living areas, upstairs office, and even the basement thanks to the power of using the mesh networking.

A Clover device may need to be installed near a window with good reception from our alert television tower. You need only ONE Clover Device to consistently receive the television signal from our tower. If one Clover device receives an alert signal from our tower, it will ALERT ALL SURROUNDING Clover devices simultaneously via Bluetooth (i.e., Clover Mesh Network) in event of an earthquake.

Our powerful version of Bluetooth communication can travel through walls very effectively, and can reach a basement or interior rooms. This Bluetooth communication has a range of approximately 80 feet, so we recommend a distance no greater than 80 feet between Clover devices.

How do I know if my signal is strong enough?

Like any television signal, the quality of the signal is affected by the physical terrain – such as hills, mountains, and valleys. Also, typically the closer you are to our alerting television tower the stronger and more consistent signal you should receive. You can review our Clover “signal map” to estimate the signal strength you should expect. View here.

We also included a section in our website that you input your physical address and we instantly inform you if your location receives a strong alert signal.

After your purchase, we included a signal meter on the side of the Clover device allowing you to find the optimal reception location in your home, or business.

What if I am unable to receive a signal?

The Clover device has an internal antenna that will be able to receive the television alert signal in most instances. However, you may have to locate one Clover device near a window allowing better and more consistent reception from the alert tower. It is important try ALL FOUR SIDES of your location as television signals can be altered many things including large buildings.

To help your reception, we have provided a TELESCOPIC ANTENNA with your purchase. Simply plug this antenna into your Clover device and place near a window if necessary. Again, be sure to check all four sides of your location. Your device will automatically notify you if it is not able to receive the alert television signal.

It is important to use the external antenna you live in area like Sacramento. The Clover alert tower is VHF there (versus UHF for most of Clover television towers). You will be required to use the external antenna in Sacramento. The internal antenna in the Clover device is not able to receive VHF transmissions.
